Interconnecting Shafts and Boots

A sideshaft consists of two CVJs connected by an interconnecting shaft. The two CVJs are connected to the wheel and the gearbox, and therefore the interconnecting shaft is necessary to transfer power from one CVJ to the other (and hence from the gearbox to the wheel, to make the wheels turn). Each CVJ requires a boot to house the grease that is used to lubricate the joints and prevent contamination, ensuring a smoother ride and longer joint life.
